Yellowstone Pt 2
We had a pretty chilly day today (it only really broke 60 within the last few miles of our day). Got up this morning and immediately crossed the continental divide (twice within the first 15 miles). We did stop at several points to check out all the mud pits, geysers, fumaroles, hot springs, etc. It was overcast most of the day, and the first half of the day was through more lodgepole pine forests with lots of traffic. We stopped halfway to watch Old Faithful with a couple hundred other folks, and it was pretty neat (even if it would have been awesome without all the hype and gift shops). I was a bit happier in the afternoon when we started following the Nez Pierce and Madison Rivers (talk about fishing fest - it looked like an Orvis catalogue). We also had awesome mountains to look at and rocky ridges on either side of the road. The roadside continued to be covered in yellow, purple, and blue wildflowers. I think we've totaled around 58 miles for the day, and we hit Montana at the very end of the day. We've holed up in West Yellowstone and have a couple long days ahead of us. Within a week, we should be in or near Missoula, MT - the home of Adventure Cycling. There are quite a few climbs between here and there. Glacier still awaits, as does the Pacific. I'm pretty worn out tonight. Sleep sounds great right now. I think I'll take the hint.
