The Drama Llama Spits Again
Yesterday, we took a short 41-miler into Rawlins, WY. We woke up and found out that our oatmeal supply was pretty much done (1 package), though we did have some pop tarts. I supplemented with a Cliff Bar, but my blood sugar was still low. I wasn't rested well, wasn't breathing all that well (though better than the day before), and wasn't feeling great. We went over some plains - there are a ton of ranches out here - and got to the interstate in pretty short order. We got on the interstate (actually not horrible) and eventually got into Rawlins, where I was still unhappy and dad seemed to be getting that way. I went off to get some space, he didn't like it, and we both exploded. He threatened the trip, was pretty insulting, and since I don't have the maps and my credit card is about to be useless, I had no bargaining power. Yesterday sucked. My mom and sister got sucked in, and things were just horrible. Today, we're taking a zero (though I would like to be on a bike) and things are much improved. We've talked most things out. Tomorrow we have a long ride one way or another.
The one ok thing about yesterday was the ton of Pronghorn (a relative of antelope which I mistook for funky-looking deer earlier). There were definitely double digits, and one crossed directly in front of me. They're pretty cool critters, and the wikipedia on them is pretty awesome as well.
We also came through Sinclair (think oil refinery with dinosaur logo). Wyoming has a ton of (not clean) energy. I think they're the major coal place (though dad was talking about how uranium-rich powder river coal is and that's frightening), they have a lot of oil places and natural gas is here too. One of the tourism magazines was listing all the area towns that started as mineral mining and became energy centers. So, of course, there are a ton of trains here too.
