Wind River Canyons

Red Canyon (?)
Variegated Rocks

Yesterday we took a lovely 78 mile ride to Dubois, WY - mostly following the Wind River. I wasn't feeling all that great in the morning, and the evening before, I hadn't had much of an appetite. I wrote it off though, and my dad kept an eye on me throughout the morning. We were with the ACA group again (a bunch of kermudgeony old dudes), but traffic did allow us a little more time on the road and off the shoulder. We climbed something like 5400 feet, though we only gained 2000 for the day. The area was nice. The River has carved out some magnificant cliffs, and there are all sorts of cool looking and cool-colored rocks around. (As far a coloration, these things had oranges/reds/greens/purples/etc - twas excellent.) There were also a fair amoung of mesa-like plateau things around (some of which provided views and downhills like the one from Beaver Rim). Early in the day, we were pedalling around Crowheart Butte, which was also pretty nice. Lots of grassy fields, and I would love to kayak on some of the sections of the river we saw. 10 miles in my neck started hurting pretty bad (it's been doing this occasionally, especially since the windy day into Sweetwater Station), and I was in tears the last 5 miles of the ride (the last 10, I was pedalling slowly to try to aviod pain). We got in, I had a crazy fever, my neck was hurting like mad, and we decided to zero today. Though the fever's gone and I feel better, the neck is still problematic.
Tommorow we attempt riding today. A short day since my dad is blaming this on "overtraining." We still have to climb a 9000+ foot pass, though.
